Can I get a fact check on my understanding of mortar rules?
**DISCLAIMER** - I'm using Des's CoC dice activation system.
FO or Big man calls it in.
Next turn if I roll a 4 (big man) or a 1 (FO) I can call in the mortar strike? and every turn where I roll a 3 or a 1 I can call another mortar strike (deviation getting better and better each turn as I'm dialing it in)?
OR does what's shown on this chart happen?
German example. I have some 81mm off board mortars. I roll a 4 and my Big Man can call it in as he has LoS to an american platoon.
Next turn I roll another 4 and the mortar strike is placed on the battlefield with a 3D6 deviation. Every other mortar barrage is coming in with 1 less D6 deviation?
The chart below. The first group of nations...is that strictly offboard artillery?
So, for German's to call in an offboard artillery barrage on the first turn they cannot? on the next turn they can call it in if they roll a 5+, next turn a 4+?
Am I reading that correctly?
Thanks
I can't seem to attached the chart but it's on page p57

Re: Mortar rules
Having just acquired the rules I cannot comment in terms of the official ruling, but I have been thinking about this for a while, particularly having played 'I Ain't been Shot Mum'. My feeling is there needs to be a distinction to what level resources were allocated and controlled, particularly at he company level. Most artillery was concentrated at a higher level and would therefore be more or less out of the players control. However motors and infantry guns were easier for company' company s to access and control. n Level II The le.IG 75mm infantry guns and the 81mm mortars were officially allocated at battalion level but often deployed at a lower level, depending on circumstances. The 75mm guns might even be used on table in street fighting situations. To my mind this means they could get a more flexible 'on call' rule, as would the mortars with fire support above that working as the rules state.

Re: Mortar rules
I've been playing IABSM for year and while I really like the rules there are so many holes to fill. This book needs a serious re-write.

Re: Mortar rules
So many views and hardly any responses.
So, I'm either correct in my understanding of the mortar rules OR
I'm so wrong and no one wants to bother to correct me
No ones really plays this game anymore
This forum is dying (as is the FB page)

Re: Mortar rules
I read most posts here, even if I don't play the game. So there's that.
