Lt Hampton runs the channel with Coastal Patrol and Flotilla Forward

Post by Joe Legan »

Ran a game of Coastal Patrol to try out the rules. Was impressed. Thoughts found here:

Enjoy

As a fellow lover of "Coastal Patrol" with "Cruel Seas" hardware, I really enjoyed the AAR - definitely mirrored the excitement levels of all of the games I have played. On the subject of vessels being hard to sink, I have to say that my opponents have never had any trouble sinking mine!!! Scuppered skippers also quite thin on the ground/in the water. I haven't played "Cruel Seas" but know people who have played both those rules and "Coastal Patrol" and, without exception, they prefer the latter (that said, anything by David Manly is the canine's cojones in the arena of naval warfare).

Incidentally, I understand that Jim Schmidt was critically ill in hospital recently. Does anyone have an update?

BVW,
Thanks; glad you enjoyed it. Good to hear that sinking does occur but sorry that they are always your ships. I admit I have only played the rules through three times. Coastal Patrol is a good set; definitely better than Cruel Seas but you gotta love those ships.
Regarding Flotilla Forward it is available at 3D wargaming here:
https://www.wargaming3d.com/product/flotilla-forward/
and on wargame vault, just search "Flotilla Forward". 3D wargaming takes slightly less of a commission which is why I thought I would try them. 100% of my profits on all my games goes to the local food banks.
I hope James is alright. He has written a great set of rules.

Jim is out of the hospital but still very weak. He had a foot amputated last year due to diabetes. Has had heart issues and a bout of sepsis since then. He is pretty well out of the wargaming hobby at this point.
I'm sure he appreciates any well wishes

BVW, Thanks. Any questions let me know.
Mark, glad James is out but sorry his health is so poor. Do you think he would like a copy of Flotilla Forward to read? If you think so send me his e-mail and I will send him a copy as a thank you and get well. My e-mail is the_legans4 at msn.com

Cheers
