Close Combat matchup

Post by Saighdear »

Maybe I missed this elsewhere:

How are close combats adjudicated where more than one defending 'unit' is involved?

I believe the Attacker designates/Orders (1) Platoon (armor Section) to Assault; but, assuming the Assaulting unit runs up against more than (1) enemy Platoon, a unit boundary, or just a Section of a 'target' Platoon, how is this handled?
i.e. Does it draw in all other Sections from the Platoon? is there a 'Range' for Close Combat: are only Sections, or entire Platoons, within a supporting distance that can reinforce or become involved?
This remains a little obscure to me still, andI can anticipate it bogging down a game w/ newcomers.
Unless I'm missing something...

Likewise, how is the target of a Firing Platoon/Section determined? Is it a whole Platoon? a Section? More appositely: are hits from a Platoon's Fire assigned to a Target Platoon? just a Section under Fire?
Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

S,

See Section 16.1 Close Combat procedure. Point 3. p76.

Close combat range is 1". An attacker will fight all units within 1" or all units occupying a BUA.

Likewise, how is the target of a Firing Platoon/Section determined? Is it a whole Platoon? a Section?

With Infantry and HE Fire you target enemy platoons. Or, of course, single enemy sections such as MMGs, etc, if they are deployed individually. All shock goes on the platoon as a whole, it is not allocated to individual sections within a platoon.

With Anti-Tank fire you target enemy AFV sections.

Hpe that helps.
