Leave the field with honour

Post by bellebsc »

Hi John

I'm sure this has been brought up before but I can't find it.

An infantry melee results in the attacker winning the melee but both the attacker and defender both disperse after both rolling great CD.

If memory serves I'm sure it has been brought up that the winning side even though dispersed do not cause their brigade to FALTER and leave the field with honour ?

Ricky.

Hi Ricky,
Can’t say that I recall any such a suggestion and I don’t see anything in the rules to suggest it.

Hi Ricky. I think there’s something in General De Brigade where a unit has reached its max losses and doesn’t fail a test where the unit rather than dispersing leaves the field with honour?

In fact I just checked my beautiful ‘Gentleman's’ Deluxe Edition of the GdB rules and on page 135 under the Dispersal Point Morale Test a unit passing this “Withdraws from the field with honour!” And is not classed as dispersed for a brigade morale test.

Hi all.

So any idea if the brigade would still falter then 😎

Hi Ricky,
I’d say that the brigade still falters even if the unit won the melee. As far as the rest of the brigade is concerned one of its constituent combat units has been dispersed and is no longer available.

Hi John

Or the brigade could be inspired seeing their battalion fight to the last and faltering the enemy's brigade..😎😎

Thanks again John

R,

I would stick with RAW; after all your men have just seen that victorious yet weak battalion disappear into the smoke of combat, never to be seen again! :? ;)
