Question on editions compatibility

Post by AWu » Fri Oct 04, 2013 11:18 am

I have a question on how 2nd and 3rd editions differ.

I am a little stretched for the money but I am looking at Vpered Na Berlin and Battle for Liberation but have not enough assets to consider 3rd edition with them..

Will they work with my second edition rules or do the rules changed substantially between editions ?
Or should I put them further in line and upgrade edition first ?

Greetings

When IABSM v3 was released Rich posted a blog item on conversion of supplements which may give you some information in terms of reverse engineering:

v3 is a lovely upgrade on v2. If I were you, I'd get the new version first and then add the expansion booklets.

I'm with Mick: upgrade to IABSMv3 first.

Looks like its probably better option (changes in mechanics)

Ive newer played my 2nd edition so I am quite reluctant to upgrade.
Ive been put out by not clearly explained mechanics of what cards should deck have, but after CoC I am newly interested in game with larger number of tanks too.
So after I will amount two platoons per side I will get it probably. Interesting to see thats intro Normandy book is included with the rules. Lack of any organization info probably facilitated my uncertainty with cards mechanics.

Thanks.

Having had experiences of both IABSM 2 & IABSM 3 upgrade as the third edition is a much more polished & running serous quantities of armour is much easier than before. Mechanically the rules are very similar but they are just better explained & implemented in 3 probably as a result of Richard's increasing skill as a rules mechanic & writer. The only irksome thing is that Richard has not yet redone all the theatre supliments to IABSM3 standards but that our fault to be honest for bagerin the poor lad about Algy & CoC & DUX
