Big men activating other big men

Post by gilliessim »

Hello - trying to find an answer to this - can't see anything in the rules so I may have made it up or read it elsewhere - can the Company CO (Big Man) activate the Platoon commanders in his company? or is that daisy chaining and forbidden?

Thank you,

Gillies

Hi,

IABSM doesn’t allow such an activation - you may have seen it in Charlie Don't Surf, where American forces can do it, due to the prevalence of walkie-talkie radios.

Cheers,
Jim

Actually IABSM does allow a Company Commander to use all of his actions to activate a single subordinate Big Man if he is on a radio net or static telephone line. See end of section 1.1 on page 15. It will specify in the Army lists which, if any, platoons are on a radio net and this will vary across the War. In the post D Day lists in the rules all British and US platoons are on a radio net, while only limited German infantry zug are.

Ah, yes, I forgot Rich added that to V3!

Having said that, from what I've read about the effectiveness of infantry radios then I probably wouldn't give most forces and effective radio net unless it was an historical scenario where the evidence indicated that such a net was in operation...

Effective radio nets only work in training ,never in combat😉
