Hull-down; moving back up to ridgeline, re-spotting??

Post by dsenebrecht » Sun Jan 27, 2019 12:57 pm

Good morning all: Getting ready to game Operation Compass, Scenario 21, The Pimple: Brit Cruiser tanks vs Italian M13/40. Some quick questions.

1) The rules note that the British tank can re-gain blind status by moving back down the ridgeline. On their next activation via blind, if they wanted to resume firing at the Italian tanks would their 4 moves be
1st action move 1 inch back up ridgeline to hull down position
2nd, 3rd and 4th action: fire 3 snapshots

or
1st action move 1 inch back up ridgeline to hull down position
2nd action must be used to acquire a target (given that they lost sight of the Italians for 1 minute or so)
3rd and 4th action: two snapshots or one aimed shot

or is it perhaps more realistically
1st action: move to ridgeline
2nd action: must re-spot the Italian tank?
3rd and 4th action:

2) Would it be realistic for the Italian artillery in the scenario to try and land smoke on the ridgeline to block the LOS of the Brits?

3) how many turns does the scenario last? Are the first and second wave of the italian tanks allowed to wait until the 3rd wave shows up or must they press forward immediately.

Thanks! Game starts in 4 hours! -Dan

Hi

1) Middle one is what I would do
2) No
3) No: they need to press forward. They have the whole of the rest of the army pushing forward behind them!

Cheers

Thanks for this. Game went well if predictably.. Unfortunately, the Italian player kept using all his actions for movement instead of engaging in a firefight. Yes, Brits are harder to hit but their Strike value has a good chance of knocking out the A-10s or A-9s.... alas, don't know if it would have made a difference due to the long stretch of open ground to cover to the ridgeline... over 30 inches....but it would have made for a more balanced ending.
