What Are We Using For The French in 1940 For Platoon Org?

Post by John Thomas8 »

I've been playing around with a scenario for a convention, thinking I could find a org chart for a plain old French infantry platoon in 1940. Turns out I can't, so I've been using a "generic" 3x 9-man squad with whatever light weapons I have on hand.

Is there any definitive org I should be using. I see a bunch o' stuff on line.....in French that I can't read.

Thanks in advance.

Lol...we have all been there!

Looking at the French in 1940. If I wanted to have a 12 man squad of colonial troops without the LMG and VB how many support points do you think 3 or 4?

not sure what You are up to?

You do not have LMG and VB grenadiers for the french miniatures?
not really worth it gaming them then.
Besides, colonial troops in 1940 did have LMG and VG grenadiers.

Anyway, there is a CoCulator excel spreadsheet available somewhere, you can just enter the figures you have and it will give you the numbers.

But be aware, unless you want to game a colonial scenario against some native insurrection, gaming CoC this way is not exactly the point...

Maybe you could explain what the scenario is about?

How many support points is a 12 man Green section but with the aggressive trait (suitable for Senegalese Tirailleurs?) an no LMG or VB grenade launcher for a French 1940 Platoon?

Its not clear to me on the CoCulator.

The CoCulator isn't really there for calculating how many Support Points an asset is worth. It's used for generating the Force Rating for a platoon. The calculating of Support Points is more of an art than a science, it includes an element of how available the asset would be in that campaign, to that unit and at that time. This is why the same asset is costed at different levels in the various pint-sized campaigns.

I'd suggest looking at other support lists to get a feel where certain types of assets sit as well as applying knowledge of the units in question.

Hope that helps.

cheers....

Back where I started then.....

If I wanted to have a 12 man squad of Regular Colonial troops without the LMG and VB (as I dont have them) how many support points do you think 3 or 4?

The 1940 lists give a Reg platoon with LMG / VB at 4 points.
