Future of CoC ?

Post by Magpie »

Hi all

Just wondering if there is any indication of whether the rules are being reviewed/evolved at the moment ?

Reading the FAQ there are hints at further detail and corrections to things, are they in progress ?

No, not as far as I am aware or has been discussed anywhere. Rich is working on other projects.
The FAQ could do with updating but that is not high on anyone's priority list right now. Some points like Force Ratings have been clarified following publication of the CoCulator.

So are you saying the publishers have lost interest in it ?

No the author has - we offered to do the lists for free if he checked them when he said he did not want to sell them but he declined . To be fair Rich is a one (two) man band and life is short
I have got over it and play other rules instead but I love the concept and the core rules of CoC they are the best platoon level skirmish rules I have come across.
I am prepared to play them with house rules and homemade lists but my club mates are not so we play BA .......sigh

No offence intended, but aren't we lucky your mates' attitude wasn't so widespread back in the days of Featherstone, Grant etc, when everything was 'home made'? They're missing out. Why do so many gamers cling so desperately to codexes, chapter approved force lists etc? Most of the unofficial CoC lists are probably as well (or better) researched than those produced for BA, FOW and others.

CofC got me playing WW2 games for the first time in 30+ years. I'm not well-informed enough to spot discrepancies in force lists and the occasional difference in points or stats is never going to affect the outcome of the game - usually a crushing but fun defeat!

I was looking at it more from the perspective that in the current set of rules there are a number of future projects mentioned and whether these thing are likely to ever come about, my concern was raised when I noticed the last entry in the army lists thread was from Rich in 2013.

It's quite a shame really, they are a good rules set and whilst I can create the missing rules myself I'd much prefer them to come from the designers themselves.

Bolt Action is such a pile of crap and getting worse every day I had hoped CoC might become the game people turn to when they grow tired of 40k derived games.

CoC doesn't seem to be at the top of the list for things happening at Lard Island these days, but there were five articles focussing on the system in the recent Summer Special and the promise of some more Pint Sized Campaigns.

So there is still interest from the publishers.

It would be nice if they fixed up the rule book though, even if they just did the digital

If I have lost interest tell me why did I write a Dunkirk campaign for the Summer Special, and why do I have two Pint Sized campaigns lined up for publication in the next two months?

Fact: I have never turned down any offer regarding lists. I wasn't even aware an offer had been made. From the outset I was very clear in saying that I'd like the generation of lists to be a collective approach. I am more than happy to look at any list anyone produces.

I am also unaware what fixes are needed in the rule book. Let me know and I can do something about any issues.

It is unfortunate that a huge pile of domestic shite has been dumped on me with being obliged to take six months out of the business last year when the mother in law went crackers and now my own mother is going the same way. I can only apologise for the fact that I can't devote as much time to Chain of Command as I'd like when we have just published Sharp Practice and I have needed to support that through its birth. However, I can assure you that Chain of Command is very much at the top of the tree with regards forthcoming releases.

Thanks for that update Rich, no need for apologies, I was merely trying to get a feel for the future so I can invest in yout products with confidence.

It's good to know CoC is still a living thing and I look forward seeing to where the system will go.

As for the rule book, I will put a few things I've noticed in another thread
