My club mates and me have played with loads of WW1 / RCW rules and made a few ourselves.

In one the MMG were incredible, basically one could pin down an entire attack, highly realistic but a blooming boring game.

Fair enough if its for game balance but MMG are no more prone to stoppages than other automatic weapons and some decidely more reliable.
Historically gun teams have a NCO.
They were more often used in pairs or more than single pieces.
Historically Platoon leaders are too busy controlling their Platoon than attach themselves to MMG who had quite competent NCOs and officers in charge of them.
And theyd most likely be off table anyway.

I can well imagine the ever cost-conscious MOD assigning AT guns to fairly senior NCOs while leaving MMGs in the care of junior NCOs: they’ve surely got to be five or ten times more expensive?
