Just had a look at the German AFVs in the new Blitzkrieg, and their list values don't tie in with the CoCulator, at least with fast being +2 and average +1. three tanks, the PzIV B-C , the Pz35(t) and Pz38(t), do not correspond to the point values regardless of what points you give for speed. Just looking at the panzers:

PzII A-C: 2(hull)+ 3 (AP) + 6 (HE) + 1 (average speed) +1 (co-ax) + 1 (low profile) = 14 points, putting it on list 5, but in the book it is list 4 (if speed for average was 0, then it would put it on 13 points, and so list 4)

PzIII A-C: 3(hull) + 5 (AP) + 3(HE) +1 (ave speed) +2 (twin co-ax and hull) = 14, so list 5, not the list 4 it is on in the book. Again, is ave speed was 0 rather than +1 then this would put it on 13 points and make it list 4.

PZIV B-C: 4(hull) + 5(AP) + 6(HE) +1(ave speed) + 2(co-ax and hull) = 18 points, so list 6, not list 5 as in the book. Even if you reduce the speed modifier for average to 0, this still puts the tank at 17 points which is still list 6. To get down to list 5 it needs to come down to 16 points.

Pz35(t): 4(hull) + 5(AP) +3(HE) +1(ave speed) +2(co-ax and Hull MG) = 15 points, so list 5 not the list 4 in the book. Even if speed modifier reduced to 0 for average speed, would still be 15 points and still list 5.

Pz38(t): 4(Hull) + 5(AP) + 3(HE) +1(ave speed) +2 (co-ax and Hull MG) = 15 poins, so same situation as the Pz35(t).

Unless the CoCulator has changed, it doesn't look like these lists were based on the Coculator, unless I am missing something (which is normally the case! )

The Coculator is a means to generically generate a rough points guide for any vehicle. The handbooks do other things, like take into account many other issues such as availability and theatre specific game balance.

Ok, thanks - I thought it must be something like that. If you want to use the CoCulator, what modifiers do you give for slow, average and fast? There has been some confusion over whether fast is +2 or +1, average +1 or 0, and slow 0 or -1.

By the way, really like the Blitzkrieg book! :D

The 1940 handbook adds some new characteristics which affect the coculator, but only for this specific book. The issue is that the handbooks will be stand-alone, so what is correct in France in 1940 may be quite different in Russia a year later. It does complicate things a bit, so I feel it's best to keep the coculator simple and accept the fact that the specific handbooks may differ slightly. For example the same weapon can have slightly different values from one list to another based on availability.

Normally, slow is -1, Average 0 and Fast or wheeled +1.

Cheers

Thanks Rich, much appreciated. I understand about the book shaping things for its period, rather than being just a CoCulator thing - the pint sized campaigns are the same - being playing the 29 Let's Go and a Sherman is list 6, whereas normally it is more.

If you have a spare moment at some point would you mind posting up the modifiers you use for the CoCulator? Be good to have an official list of them, especially as there are new ones for the new book.

OK, so with the speed being set at -1/0/+1 there will be a few vehicles, that were on the bubble, that will now need to be switched back using these values.

The CoCulator also does not use any vehicle stats from "not free" sources as starting points. Others have made it in based on other's contributions.

“at some point” translates to “Easter” in Lardy, doesn’t it?

Has the Arsenal been updated in line with what Rich said about speed modifiers?
