Playsheet & Game Rosters

Post by richard »

These may now be had on Lard Island News. Here: http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=5885

The playsheet is, self-evidently, designed to aid play. It is a resume of stuff which cannot be learnt. If it can be easily learnt, it isn't in there.

The Game Roster allows you access to all the unit stats during play, rather than keep flicking through lists of the rules.

I hope they will be of assistance.

That's a great resource for veteran players. Thing is, if I put on a game at my club with people who haven't invested the time and effort to learn this game on their own beforehand it'll flop. Sure, I can spend an hour going through examples of play and what the cards can do, but that doesn't mean that information will sink into gamers' heads. If they have something in their hand that says what CIs, flags, etc. can do they can then reference that as they play in order to get to the point where such references aren't needed.
I really like these rules and am working towards running a campaign where the players will have as intuitive a grasp on them so that they are truly playing the period instead of the rules. I just think, based on my experience of putting on games for 20 years, that there is a steep learning curve with these rules before you reach the gentle plateau of simply enjoying them.

Someone produced a "not so quick" reference sheet that they used for their first couple of games. That might work for you.

Used the unofficial one and it worked a treat for 4 who had never played before, I might pencil in reference page numbers until we get to grips

The new sheet worked fine for us we had to look a few bits up but only because we've not had any fisticuffs before.

It does exactly what Rich said - it was a minimal QRS for players who've played a few time already.

I'd be more than happy to post the unofficial one on Lard Island News if someone can tell me where it is.

I am interested that some of you let the players get entangled with the rules. When I run games I never let the players see the rule sets. I just tell them what their options are.
