Using Command Cards to Increase Leader Status?

Post by Tcpt1989 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:20 pm

Hi Folks

On page 26, leaders are able to use command cards to (1) increase their Command Initiatives for the turn, and (2) direct the fire of a group or formation, increasing the the total number of firing dice by the number of command cards used.

On page 45, you add 1D6 to firing dice for each status level of a leader controlling fire. Therefore, my question is if you use command cards as per (1) above to increase a leader’s command initiatives, does that count as raising their status level for calculating additional fire dice on page 45?

If it does, it seems as though using command cards to increase firing dice isn’t worthwhile, as you could instead get a higher status leader to do other things, eg reduce more shock, and still get more firing dice due to the leader’s increased status.

Thanks for your help!

What it really means is 'Use a Command Card to gain one Command Initiative' (not Status Level).

As an aside, a Leader who is attached to a Unit who he Activates to Fire automatically directs its fire, he only needs to spend a CI if he is not attached to it. However the general question affects much more than just directing fire and the use of 'status level' rather than 'Command Initiative' is unfortunate, unintended and wrong.

Thanks, that clears it up for me. Increases in Command Initiatives is not the same as an increase in Status level. Makes sense as that way the two different command card uses work.
