Ok another newbie question,

Apologies if this one has been asked before I tried trawling through forum to find an answer but alas nothing found, so here goes. Please be gentle in your replies.
A unit firing uncontrolled volleys either has target retreat out of range or out of arc, finds itself with no targets in arc. would such a unit have to roll on table to stop firing, even though no targets are present?

Yes it has to pass a Control Test to do anything else. Otherwise it simply keeps firing as the formation is oblivious to the lack of any target due to the smoke, noise and confusion.

A Musician at one Point is a good Support Option to give a +1 when rolling to cease Uncontrolled Fire. Very much a "must have" for Militia Troops.
