Sweden's War with Russia

Post by AFPU » Fri Mar 20, 2020 4:41 pm

Hi

Having just acquired the SP2 rules and part way through building up French and British Peninsular War forces for use with General D’Armee I wanted to try something different and have landed on Sweden’s war with Russia. At the same time the Swede’s were also at war with Denmark, so I could have three SP2 forces, Swedish, Russian and Danish.

There is a nice website by Hans Hogman on the Swedish army of that era. The challenge is finding a suitable SP2 Army list for the Swede’s. Based upon what I have managed to read to date my thoughts are as follows, and I would appreciate your comments:

Leader III with Three groups of 8 line infantry - 6 pts each
Leader II with Two groups of 6 skirmishers (Jaegers) – 8 pts each
Leader I with One group of 6 skirmishers (Jaegers) – 8 pts
Total force value =57

For force characteristics I was thinking of basing this on those for the Danish forces in the article by Hans Chr. Wolter who provides army lists for the Danish forces that fought the Swede’s.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated before I start ordering stuff from the Perry’s Swedish range.

Regards
Gary

Hi

This is what I am proposing to use for the Swedish forces based upon that proposed for the Danish in the article by Hans Chr. Wolter.

Swedish Line Infantry
Type: Regulars
Points: 6
Weapon: Musket
Size: 8
Formation: Always
First Fire: Yes
Controlled Volley: Yes
Crashing Volley: 2
Step Out: 3
Drill: 3
Characteristics: Sharp Practice, Stubborn

Swedish Jaeger Skirmishers
Type: Regulars
Points: 8
Weapon: Rifle
Size: 6
Formation: Always
First Fire: Yes
Controlled Volley: No
Crashing Volley: -
Step Out: 3
Drill: 3
Characteristics: Sharp Practice, Stubborn, Tactical

Any feedback welcome.

Regards
Gary

Both Danish and Swedish troops are relatively strong in the lists you have. These are comparable with regular Austrian troops. Is that your intent? For our 1809 event we have toned them down a little, also based on the Swedish list in WSS86 https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/w ... 6-pdf.html You might find that the official Russians are relatively weak versus the Swedish.

Have you seen this latest release from the Perry twins (including the uniform book)?

Hi

Thanks Greuthungi, I have ordered a copy of WSS86. The initial characteristics were based on those proposed for the Danish troops, so I thought that the Swedish would be very similar.
