Alternative to Cards

Post by Gazzy »

Being a lazy and miserly sort of fellow I have been thinking of ways to circumvent getting some decent cards run up for a Western Front 1914 iteration of ITLSU and have hit upon the following measure:

- 100x mixed 22mm plastic coloured tokens from Ebay
- 10x a4 sheets of 117x 19mm circular stickers also from Ebay

All of which cost me less than a fiver. The idea is to run-up scenario specific stickers, so if I were doing the Rearguard at Villers-Cotterêts 01/09/1914, some of the Britannic battalion sticker might look something like this:

All the counters would go into a cup or bag to be drawn out at random. It would probably also make sense to allocate specific colours to combatants. What say you?

I say chips are better than cards for quite a few reasons - See https://dereksweetoys.com/chips-with-everything/

And there was me thinking I'd done something revolutionary! Thanks for the link - lots of useful advice that I shall doubtlessly appropriate.

I should probably also take this opportunity to say that your own 10mm France 1940 project has been an influence on my own attempts to game this scale/theatre, which has been chronicled here: https://we-stand-and-fight.blogspot.co.uk/

We regularly use labelled poker chips in our ITLSU games. You can sometimes pick them up cheaply in charity shops. While generic chips are OK, I would agree that named chips bring more flavour to the game.

Your project looks to be going well. I do like Pithead vehicles, those Morris CS9s are lovely.

I've been working on French recently, but I've not got them up on the blog yet.
