Playing in 15mm

Post by Manchu » Mon Apr 11, 2016 3:09 am

Does anyone have a suggestion as to reducing ranges, zone of influence etc, for playing in 15mm?

I am putting together Sub-Roman British and Early Saxon armies from Splintered Light. I have the men on 15mm square bases, champions and I-II status nobles on 20mm rounds, III status nobles/lords on 25mm rounds, and plan to do IV status lords as mini-dioramas on 30mm rounds.

If you're not restricted to a smaller table than 6'x'4', then my advice would be don't touch the measurements at all, as there's no reason to.

TBH I didn't think of it until I read the zone of influence rule ... 4" out in front of a 15mm figs "feels" too much. I was thinking of swapping inches for centimeters, as I have seen suggested in other rulesets for dipping down to 15mm from 28mm.

Up to you, but:

1) change everything - i.e. change the whole scale, not individual rules - if you don't, you'll break the balance of ranges vs movement vs zone of influence etc
2) if you change inches to centimetres on a 6'x'4' table it'll take a LONG time for forces to get into contact.

Also, if you take 15mm as 6', then 4" equates to only 40'. If your miniatures are a bit over 15mm, or you assume they were a bit less than 6' tall, it's even less than that. I think that's plenty close enough for them to look threatening!

Cheers,
Jim
