Saxon Shore Summer Special 2012

Post by Old Guy » Sat Sep 21, 2013 8:16 pm

I have a Dux B day coming up next week and I want to play these scenarios as I have recently become the proud owner of three longships, also adding these to my own will give me a reportoire of 10 raids. I don't know who wrote these but I am confused about the objectives, there seems to be two, one is straight forward and has the Saxons looting a church/monestery. The other has them taking two bases of livestock off the 'opposite' edge, now considering they came from the sea, why would they march inland?

Anyone else played this or can the author shed some light on the objectives?

They need to take them of a friendly board edge which is easier said than done & for the coastal raid I would translate that as getting the animals back to the raiders boats.

That's what I thought, I just wondered about the original intention, I have split it up into two raids, one for cattle and one for plunder. To the ships!

The Saxon shore scenario gives you a coastal based version of several of the raid scenarios in the main book which other than the Saxon start & end point being their boats on the shore work exactly as described in the book.

The one where you have to get the cattle to the waiting boats is often quite hilarious what with the cattle going of in a different direction.

the cattle raid is generally hilarious especially for the Romano Brits as the cattle do their own thing & the Saxon is torn between trying to see off the Romano British & trying to keep errant cows and sheep in something approximating control.

I have never see the Saxons win this one.

it might I grant be possible but I have never seen any hope of it due to losing control of the animals.

The cattle were particularly biddable when we ran this. I think they ran off at one point but the Saxons were quickly able to corral them; it helped that they had a fair head start.

Both times I have played it solo & ar Beer & lard last year they where any thing but that & doubles where the order of the day as where bloodless combats at the latter to the point we accused both sides of being LARPERS & using rubber swords.

Still it was a hel of a lot of fun Dux always is.
