Lion Rampant
Has anyone on here tried the Lion Rampant rules? If so, what do you think?

Re: Lion Rampant
I have. Personally I thought they were crap but I know plenty of others who swear by them.
Although the author alludes to them not being overly complicated & harking back to "old school" type gaming, I thought they were akin to something I could have knocked up in an hour at 14 when PE was rained off at school.
Depends on what you want from a game, but it left both me and my regular SP opponent distinctly unimpressed.

I'm with the Lardy Tractor Driver. Some of my friends really like them, but I just can't see why.

I also agree - somehow they manage to be too simplistic and too fiddly.
Re: Lion Rampant
Well, they work for me, so in a minority at present. IMHO they provide a fun game, with plenty of scenarios and options to alter these via the boasts system, and all for around £8.00 inc P&P.

Yeah I quite like them. I would prefer a SP or Dux conversion to the period. But until I get that done they are a good quick game to play.

I played them recently for the first time and like them. They are clever and elegant and give a fast game. Also, I think they actually model some aspects of medieval small scale combat quite well (as far as we can know about such things). And I like that they are scenario based and offer lots of room for tinkering.

- The Wild Charge - knights having to test not to charge, as they are eager to get into melee… like at the battle of Arsuf, where the Hospitallers couldn't be kept back and charged before Richard gave to order to do so. A similar incident is described in The Poem of El Cid.
- The activation models the different motivations of troops to be more or less willing to do different things.
This may all be banal, and I'm sure there are more sophisticated rules out there, but in fact we know little about medieval warfare and I think the rules capture what we know quite well.

P.S.: I just had two games of the battle of Agincourt with LR, and the outcome was appallingly historical for the French
