Has anyone tried these rules?
That have been around for ages but I have only just started looking at them as an alternative to ADLG.

Far superior to ADLG (imho) as the army sizes are bigger and less of element fiddling!
However, I find the table terrain very one dimensional (to be expected in a competition style game) and the number of cards etc on the table destroys the aesthetic of the game. Some neat mechanisms though!

Thanks Don,
They sound promising then. I don't mind the cards on the table really. I found ADLG rules difficult to remember band get into the swing of. So I'm hopeful about these.

I find them to be just OK. Not great but not bad, if you are familiar with FoG, aside from the alternate activations, I find MeG to be another flavour of FoG but using discs/cards to activate units. Overall I prefer ADLG. Things I'm not keen on with MeG and / or reasons I prefer ADLG:
1) MeG is unit based and at the Magna level (Pacto the mini game is terrible IMO, units are WAY too brittle and Maxima needs a gazillion figures) I never find there's many units on the table, 8-10 max. As such it feels more like playing a section of a battle rather than a whole battle. In Maxima it doesn't seem to change either, just bigger units, not more of them.
2) The card/disc activation system can be 'gamed' to a degree where, if you happen to draw a few reds and yellows and don't yet need them, you can effectively hamper your opponents C&C ability to a degree by hanging on to those, reducing the chances even further of your opponent being able to draw them (given the proportions of the reds / yellows is already lower).
3) The activation / movement mechanisms can result in some rather dubious results and tactics IMO, such as saving a cavalry unit, moving it last with a double move, then going first in the next turn and charging a unit of archers with it with the archers not having chance to get a shot off. Hmmm.
I will still play MEG but prefer ADLG overall, I just hope the soon to be published v4 of the rules tidies up some of the layout and translation issues. I like them both a lot more than DBMM.
Update: Only just noticed the original question was from July 2020, so a somewhat late reply LOL.
