SP2 : Rescue mission Indian Mutiny

Post by WillieB »

First game after - finally re-opening of our clubhouse.
The Mutiny has just started and civilians are fleeing from danger everywhere. A large group is trying to shelter in a derelict old fort, but is intercepted by an even larger groups of sepoy rabble and dacoits.

A relief column is on the way but consist of only a single group of Madras Fusiliers and two units of Mahratta matchlock men provided by a local ruler.
There's also a secondary mission for the leader of the relief column, but his main objective is trying to get as many civilians to safety.
Axel commanded the mutineers and dacoits. Sam had the relief column and Vincent took care of the civilians. The civilians had one decent group of irregular skirmishers composed of 6 good shots railroad men/big game hunters. Most of the rest were "wallahs" armed with handguns or fowling pieces.

Axel had some abysmally bad dice throws (even worse than usual) and never managed to get his 'Big chopper" dacoits within fisticuffs range.
So he had to rely on relatively ineffectual shooting. Still, he managed to force at least three groups of civilians to an involuntary retreat after which they sheltered behind the walls of the derelict fort.

Somewhat unscrupulous- but effective- Vincent used a 12 man group of handgun armed civilians as "meat- shields"

One group, alas not the rifle armed hunters who were decimated and had accrued an enormous amount of shock, made it to the ramparts of the fort and started giving support to their unluckier compatriots still outside of the fort.

But by that time (6th turn!) the Mahratta and Madras troops had advanced within firing range and delivered a devastating volley in the flank of Axel's main group of sepoys. clearly the objective- killing the civilians- was no longer possible and the sepoys retreated to fight another day.

As said the British commander had a side quest (a lá Dawns & Departures) Two beautiful young ladies were, prior to the start of the game, already captured by a lecherous local ruler. He is hiding them somewhere in a building or cave nearby, already stripped of their dignity and awaiting a fate worse than death. The British commander, a Renaud type leader, is tasked to free these two ladies. They are guarded by an enormous body guard so an interesting duel could ensue. But since the sepoys and dacoits left the field he automatically would have found the girls- hiding in one of the village houses-. It was agreed he had to do a gentlemanly thing after dispatching the guard- he would have probably shot him Indian Jones style - which was to cover their ahum, embarrassment. So yes, those Brother Vinni figures do come in handy sometimes. ;-)
