EW Germans

Post by Baldie »

Just made a start on my EW Germans

First squad has the wash drying, used a bit too much and they are in the look god awful stage before highlights hopefully brings em alive again.

Not happy with the helmet, I have gone for a dark green colour and may do again in a dark grey.

Never painted Germans so it has been interesting.

I've gone with the same dark gray color I use for panzer gray. I prefer the extra contrast when viewed from above, especially since the top of the head is going to reflect more light than the rest of the figure (esp. in 15mm) and appear lighter by comparison.

Yup I agree with Levi's reasoning even for 28mm.

I did paint a few LW ones dark green but prefer the dark grey....mind you I did grow up on Commando comics etc so my perceptions of what Germans look like is coloured by that 😊

Did a couple green and rest grey.
First squad done apart from basing.

All new to me this Jerry stuff.

Anyone got a good link to German EW infantry insignia, going for 4th panzer division if that matters.

I fancy a crack at shoulder, collar and arm patches or something that looks a little like them anyway.

I do intend to cheat a little and morph some to MW figs with a bit more camo etc.

TT def with you on the commando comics, I always feel BA is like a Commando story.
Still got mine, I am a little scared to look at em as I know I would try to collect the gaps. Many happy memories of going out before breakfast when on holiday in Brid to get one.

Cast aside historical accuracy and just slapped on some white to collar and shoulder bars. More a representation of insignia than a statement of fact but they look ok to me.
No idea if they should have been a different colour but as generic EW infantry go they are great for me.

They are Black Tree which I have often thought are a bit hit and miss re a slightly goofy look.
However they are fab figs and paint jumps onto them like coppleston figs which are a fave of mine.

Pics when I get bases done, still got opportunity to mess em up.

All my Germans are Black Tree I reckon they paint up pretty well .
I do a couple short white stripes for collar tabs
Shoulder pads paint thick white stripe then paint thin black stripe in middle looks great from 2 ft away.

yep.. that's what I do for the shoulder-boards too, and I also went with a German grey for the helmets:

Very nice, I didn't go with the helmet decals.

Will stick up a picture of mine when I finish the bases.

PS did you go Soviets?

Needless to say I am a little over excited about the whole COC EW thing.
First squad has the glue drying on their bases, was going for a fairly plain look. These guys are going to be fighting in the Strreets of Poland, villages across France, wheat fields in the Ukraine and may even make it to the bombed out ruins of Stalingrad.

Using my usual logic therefore I went with flowery, shrubbed up to the max bases instead.

Excitement over for today, light mortars, second squad and a T26 for a bit of variety on the go next.
Just hope my Black Tree reinforcements make it through the delivery system of this crazy world.
