28mm American Civil War

Post by leopard » Mon Apr 22, 2019 6:16 pm

FLGS ended up with a copy of the Perry Twins "American Civil War in a Box" through a very long story, and through a somewhat shorter one I ended up with it.

its two very nice Sharp Practice forces, with a few extra bits for both sides, all it really needs is a few more cavalry.

anyway, today I painted my first group of models, some Confederates

need varnishing which will nuke the glossy finish in a few places, and the bases need a bit of work, maybe a bit of mud drybrushed onto the lower parts of the models, but otherwise happy with them, quick and simple "base and wash" paint job but my aim being to get the bods on the table before I forget I've got them

Terrible picture, but the previous ones now have a few friends, three groups, a leader, drummer, colour party supported by a skirmish group with a leader

Image

also the rather nice farm house from the box painted up

Few more, start of the second detachment

slightly more basic uniform, thinking of using them as a more recently raised unit

Perry make some lovely figures, don't they? - you have done them proud!

Really liking them for how simple they are to paint this way, managed another 16 of them over the last two days, now have six groups, three in each style. One more group of skirmishers with a leader and a four man command group and the confederate side is finished.

best bit, off the back of this there are two others looking at ACW and Sharpe Practice, already got a few people playing SP with Napoleonic stuff

I thought it only contained the older models! They look great!

looks like enough of the actual Confederates for two groups of 24, plus a four man command group, plus another 6 and another officer, there are a fe spare drummers too.

Union side is a unit of 24 Zouaves, which are also very nice, then the rest are the "generic" models which are "ok" but not overly nice, likely to end up as second rank models with something nice in front of them

command group for the Confederates now done, have the second skirmish group and its officer then that side are done

Rubbish pic, but a family photo

Enough for one of the SP Confederate suggested forces, plus a cannon and spare line infantry group, colour party, drummer and an overall commander (on a pony to boot)

just need to get my finger out and get the group bases ordered

again a basic paint job, quick enough to apply as well
