Agreed, Derek. Given that patrol activity establishes the front line, and jump-off points represent places located for the purpose of launching an attack/establishing a defence, it would make sense for minefields/barbed wire/roadblocks to be placed after the patrols have locked down the front line b...

Though a gentleman's agreement about the possible presence or absence of armour might be considered good form, particularly for patrol actions.

John, as I understand it the 'points system' is guidance for pickup games only. So use and enjoy - so long as your opponents know about it in advance.

It would be worth having a normal patrol phase even if they are restricted from crossing the river, just so that you can work out the ditribution of jump-off markers.

OK, I guess if the enemy has gone tactical in the open, then you might want to wait for them to do something before you shot at them. But generally I would agree that this is a case of reading the wordiong too closely, as opposed to understanding the intent.

Gavin, you know what he is going to activate, but not what he is going to do (that section might go onto overwatch itself, for example).
