Is a step back a withdraw?

Hi Under Infantry assault you cannot withdraw from the enemy once in volley range. But can you Step back? If you were still inside the volley range would this be seen as an adjustment and not a withdrawal? If yes this would be useful to line up on targets that may have appeared, shifted, wheeled or ...

Re: Royal Horse Artillery

DB You confused? surely not. Agree that normal strength RHA 5x6pdr + 1 Howitzer. But in some of the penisular battles many got stuck in places like Lisbon or left besieging towns when the army moved quickly. At Albuera sources (Lipscome's book [Wellington's guns] references this as does Dempsey) sho...

Re: Royal Horse Artillery

Hi Michele Thanks for the suggestion which is a good one although I remember Dave suggesting that he thought that any sort of battery would be pretty devastating so maybe I should not reduce the firepower from the very off. Maybe reducing the lasting power could be a viable alternative such as havin...

Royal Horse Artillery

RHA troop size (particularly in the Peninsula) were relatively small (usually 4 guns per battery).
French equivalents had 6 guns. Should we adjust firing modifiers for this? Small batteries are N/A in the rule set

Re: Column of companies and charges

Would you get a -1 modifier for Narrow Frontage if cavalry in CoC attacked from the front by a more conventionally formed cavalry force? or is that only for defending units? Similarly if attacking across a bridge? In addition in this situation you would be a vunerable target and add 2 CD to any inco...

Re: Garrison Firing

Hi Nick
I think the range is needed to avoid a strange scenario where skirmishers could fire at a garrison but they could not fire back.

Re: Disordered units who are charged

Hi Dave
Thanks for the clarification.
Would a unit unformed but in column charged by cavalry also then be in an 'unformed column' and retain the column vs cavalry modifier? or is it just unformed squares that count for this ruling?

Re: Disordered units who are charged

Hi John Hmmm not sure what an unformed square represents?? A unit is either in the formation of a functioning square or an unformed formation that is not functioning as a square (or line, or column)not both. As unformed units cannot change formation without reforming first, they would not be allowed...

Re: Standard Units and Scale

Gentlemen, thanks for the encouragement. I will set aside my OCD tendency for complete accuracy for now. Planning to play the whole of Albuera very soon. My orbat contains a good variation in unit sizes and abilities, so will be able to see how it plays. Thinking of making it...difficult ...for Colb...
