Re: Ambushing with soviet squads

The general perception is that the soviets were more rigid and had few initiative, and maybe that should be the case in the early war period, but in the late war be more complex. There's an element of truth to it, but from everything I've seen or read it wasn't really at the squad to platoon level ...

Re: Flamethrowers in forests

The Japanese used flamethrowers when attacking in close terrain in New Guinea. I would argue that given their extremely short range the only time manpack flamethrowers were ever effective for anybody was in close terrain. That's one of the main reasons nobody really uses them any more. Arguably, ye...

Re: Silencers and Suppressors

I've largely given up trying to fit this kind of raiding campaign into the CoC world - just too many changes that take it too far away from the core of the rules - although I think it can still work for some of the bigger raids like Simi, Lemnos and Khios. I agree, if you need to have sentries and ...

Re: Transffering troops

1. Could I transfer the last man from one team to the other (to the LMG for exemple)? Yep, sure 2. Would that mean that I have to roll for ”team wiped out”? I would say yes, you do. They've obviously been shot to bits, and are on their last legs. 3. If I didn´t roll for ”team wiped out” when I moved...

Re: scenario four : a delaying action

But, I also don’t see how the attacker can win a delaying action by sitting back and pounding the defender from a distance and not advancing. That completely goes against the intent of the scenario. I’ve always wrestled a little with this particular aspect of the rules. I have no problem with the r...

Re: Silencers and Suppressors

I've been working on a WWII Aegean raiding campaign for a while with some rule variants to introduce stealth and wondered to what extent WWII raiding forces had access to silencers and suppressors? First of all: have you looked at the Osprey ruleset Black Ops? It's intended for post-war stealth "ta...

Re: scenario four : a delaying action

You're not the first person to ask this question; it's perhaps not worded the most clearly.

Bottom line: having your morale fall to zero and routing is always a loss, in any scenario. Or as Rich Clarke himself put it "you cannot win by losing".

Mind you there are some cracking Russian Partisan ranges but nobody seems interested in their campaigns.
I think the interest would be there if we had more source material available for them in English. There must be a lot of cracking stories...

Re: Resistance / Partisans

National Characteristics would be interesting as they seem to be even more preoccupied with settling scores amongst themselves than fighting Germans. 🙂 That's the thing, to do it properly would take someone with a good understanding of the politics of the region, the different groups and how they c...

Re: Resistance / Partisans

I think unless you had a specific scenario or campaign written they would not be much fun. But on the flipside if you did have a little campaign strung together they could be a ton of fun. WW2 is such a big space to tell stories in, and there was so much more going on than just the regulars socking...
