Re: infantry line vs cavalry

That sounds right to me for first edition. My understanding from discussions here is that in second edition infantry does not have the option to stay in line and fire.

Re: Picketts Charge 2?

I like many of the things that GdA2 speeded out. Our group likes some of the process in Pickett’s Charge and GdA to the point we are probably staying with the original GdA as well.

Re: Austrian Battalion-mass House rule

I’d actually suggest the other way ‘round. Being in the compact formation with bayonets facing out keeps the cavalry from reaching to cause injury and the solid formation puts more of the infantry in the middle where they can’t effectively fight.

Front to flank?

I am looking, of course at first edition rules since second won’t be about for a few weeks, for a formation change front to flank (a line faces right to form column of companies with the right ahead, or a column of companies with the right ahead faces left to form line. I find this available in Pick...

About to play first edition for the first (and possibly last) time tomorrow. In 2nd edition do brigade skirmish lines and light battalions in skirmish formation still track casualties differently (with stand removal for the screen but not light battalions) or have they been made consistent? If consi...

Re: Charging units that charged?

Thanks John. I actually found that answer when it dawned on me to search counter charge as two words as well as one. Particularly the opportunity charge covers what I was looking for.

Charging units that charged?

Obviously, I’m still in first edition. I’m thinking mostly in terms of cavalry here, but it could apply to infantry as well. If a phasing player’s unit declares a charge, can a non-phasing player declare a charge on it? Can the target of the charge declare against the unit that charged it? (I know t...

Re: French Cuirassier brigades in 1812 - Russia.

One of the things I think about when everything is shrunken (the Russians were too) is to define down small, medium, and large instead of everything being small, you keep proportionality.
