Re: Deployment vs ambush
Firstly, Seasons Greetings ! 🥃 That principle is integral to CoC, SP and Infamy!. It's kind of Lardy DNA. Yes that's a given but I never see as a problem in CoC, it feels on a more controlled basis and both sides often have equal access to Deployment (Jump Off) points, or at least only a superiority...

Re: Deployment vs ambush
I often remove barbarian APs during the game (not in the scouting phase). What would you do then? Like I said, I think its entirely up to the player to move the units from that location. Other wise is just a case of use it or lose it! However, that relies on them being honest about what's supposed ...

Re: Deployment vs ambush
When we have tried using this a couple of times before moving on to test out other things I have mentioned on threads and it seems to work OK. Given that the Barbarians at Home have 6 AP/DP and most of the time Romans are only going to be able to Scout four of them, then given how the process works ...

Re: Deployment vs ambush
Deployment? Oh goodie my favourite! 😀 The accepted (or not) wisdom regarding low terrain is that it allows for units hiding in folds in the ground. That's common to many rules and does have some merit, although somewhat of a get out. That said, having walked the battlefield of Salamanca (for example...

Re: OK, I've had enough of Infamy & Deployment!
Actually, that looks like a good combo to add to the Cohors Peditatae list I've drawn for the Foraging Party game next time round. I'll make the Status 2 a local leader, to keep the Surly possibility under some kind of control if it turns up on the dice roll!

Re: OK, I've had enough of Infamy & Deployment!
Ha! Knew there was something in SP! Haven't played it for over a year and I don't own a copy so I couldn't check. Yes three cards before turns end would do the job. Although doing it in that fashion will no doubt mean they get played right away but I guess its the same for both sides. On points, the...

Re: OK, I've had enough of Infamy & Deployment!
As I have said in another post, part of the "problem" is that no matter how much you test rules when you sell them to a large number of people (and Congratulations to Rich for the Rules Award BTW) more and more variables will come into play than you can possibly have time to test. That's really true...

Re: How are you choosing your Forces?
Sounds reasonable to me. If I was up to my neck in Horse Archers, I'd quite like someone on my side to be shooting back!
And a Cohort of Cretans! Was that for old times sake?

Re: OK, I've had enough of Infamy & Deployment!
Hi Neil, Yes, luck has something to do with it, although I doubt the Barbarians I play against see it as bad! Although in fairness, the novelty has worn off for them as well. Luck itself is not the only issue, the rules have a part to play as well. In most of our games at the start we have perhaps 4...

Re: How are you choosing your Forces?
So in general terms (that is, not just in Britain) what's the generally accepted timeframe ("date" probably being too exact a word) for the appearance of Auxiliary Archers in a formalised sense, as opposed to old school Cretan Archers of the Punic Wars etc.
