Re: Partial reveal of a blind

Ok - so I should have popped the rest of the platoon on the tea break.

By ambush I wasn’t referring to the rule in the game; but it sounds like I played it incorrectly nonetheless. Thanks for the clarification.

Jim

Re: Some musings on light mortars and smoke

Hey John: From what I’ve read about light mortars, they were Indeed pretty accurate. I guess my main cause of concern is the auto-hit of the first round. As a long-time gamer I’ve never been a fan of the automatic hit; and, only slightly more in favor of the auto-miss (notwithstanding range, LOS, et...

Some musings on light mortars and smoke

I downloaded the BFL supplement which had the smoke rules, and I want to be sure I played this correctly. My British 2” mortar team is trying to lay a smoke screen in front of a house containing a German tripod MG. I drop a marker in front of the house (no roll needed to hit). Then, I rolled a scatt...

Partial reveal of a blind

So, I have a situation where a British platoon is approaching two structures, each of which contain a German squad. There is also a BM in one of the houses. Another squad in a different house has activated on a previous turn, which required me putting that platoon’s card in the deck. Now, in a subse...

Re: Caen scenario - blinds setup and revealing

John: That makes sense. I’m refereeing a “shelter at home” game where the guys text general orders to me and I handle the mechanics (with a little “artistic license” regarding the interpretation of those orders 😜! The German player placed two of the three foxholes in an orchard just behind a hedge; ...

Caen scenario - blinds setup and revealing

Another couple of noob questions here. In the Caen scenario it says that the Germans can deploy 5 sections/teams in foxholes. I have looked through the rules and blogs about terrain feature blinds; and have found that woods, thick hedges, buildings, bunkers, and high walls offer enough concealment a...

John:

Not a ramble in the least - that was exactly what I needed to know. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

Good and light cover for spotting

I have been looking over the historical scenarios in the book; and, under the terrain section the rules refer to different types of terrain as being light or good cover. For firing I surmise that light=ok shot and good=poor shot - no problems there. However, I haven’t a clue what these designations ...

Re: Indirect fire and buildings

Hey, John: I understand that this is basically a house rule. I just wanted to see if this is how you would adjudicate it. My thinking is that if you allow any building in the kill zone to be affected, it might make barrages a little OP. That’s why I was using the rule that the building in question h...

Re: Indirect fire and buildings

So, if I understand, in order for the barrage to affect a building, the building must be the aiming point; and, the barrage must not deviate (eg a hit must be rolled on the deviation die). Correct?
