Re: Respective differences

I think you are getting hung up on a pure example here and it is confusing things. That example is all about the lead being the centre unit and the group advancing together until the lead reaches 5cm as which point they all stop. If your brigade is on 'infantry assault' and you declare the left rear...

Re: Interpenetration fire or not to fire.

I would say it could not fire. As it has friends coming directly at them and hot on those heels is the victorious unit. The burst through situation for me would lead to confusion and lack of cohesion, hence unformed. If however the unit to the rear was outside the initial distance the router must mo...

Re: Interpenetration fire or not to fire.

A unit wins a victory and the defeated routed unit interpenetrates a unit directly behind it unforming it. The chargers role their dice and charge on towards the unformed unit, may the unformed unit fire on the chargers? I can't find anything to say they can't. Now just to clarify if the unit that ...

Re: Melee with Elan

See page 89 - The lead unit in Melee gains an extra Casualty Die.

It applies only to the lead unit in all rounds of melee.

Re: Columns through light woods

Concur with John. Also as it would be good terrain, the columns would be coming on at full speed!

Re: Resources for unit grading

Honestly Jim, I don't think there is an easy way to achieve this. You can look to reading the historical battle and it may give you an insight into some units and how they performed and then you may assign them a grade. If you have some knowledge of particular units that of course can help, but I th...

Re: Arty firing and skirmish screens

When the screen is over 5cm forward of their brigade the artillery may fire upon the units behind at no negative, the -2 does not apply as you are not firing at the skirmishers. The screen really only stops musketry.

Re: Firing as the charger goes across the front

http://www.users.on.net/~bears/Charge.png See me pic. There was no option for the rear unit to fire in support due to distance. But as it charged on at the artillery the line wished to fire. We did allow it but we also consider the fact that there was probably a bunch of routers in the mix, so woul...

Firing as the charger goes across the front

So column hits line in the flank. The line routs via the charge roll. The column charges on! Now to the flank of the column is an enemy line. As the column in hot pursuit of the routers crosses the lines front can the line fire? The column will impact a battery in the flank as well. The discussion i...
