Re: Hedges and spotting

You don’t tend to find low trimmed hedges as field boundaries except very close to buildings or roads. Most of the hedges in open countryside are fairly raggedy. Farmers don’t generally have time to manicure them.

Re: Swamp fox

I always add flags for larger games: +1 flag for six or more units, and +2 for nine or more. Keeps the game moving along and allows you to use bonuses like ‘sharp practice’ and ‘pas de charge’ more than once in a blue moon. Would definitely consider doing so for multi-player games. Works fine if the...

Re: Brunswick light inf

Or are the lights only lights in name only? Had a quick glance at the Brunswick 1815 lists for Sharp Practice in Lard Mag 2020, and they treat the Brunswick Light Battalions as a cut above the Line. They are costed at 6pts versus 4 pts for Line as a result of several abilities characteristic of tru...

Re: GDA2

No apologies required, Rob. I agree with you that the individual squadrons need to be identifiable. And in an ideal world they need to be part of the game. One complication is that in the accounts you often hear of regiments that nominally number 3 or 4 weak squadrons, yet these are fielded on the d...

Re: GDA2

I would also allow squadrons to be separately tasked, but each task group is then a small unit. (the armies with 2x4 squadron battalions in a regiment, and maybe the large French Guard Cav regiments might need soem tweaking on this one) And that’s where the problem lies. The individual ‘pawns’ in y...

Re: Brunswick light inf

Found a letter stating that at QB the 2nd Lights and Leib Battalion took back part of the woods on the right wing while the 2nd Line stood resolutely in square fending off all-comers. Doesn’t say specifically that 2nd Lights were in skirmish order, which I may have read elsewhere. Anyway, hope that’...

Re: Brunswick light inf

The Brunswick Lights, like the Line, were all fairly new recruits, and predominately very young. They’d probably had little time for additional light infantry training. Even so they performed very well both at QB and at Waterloo with, I think it was the 2nd Light, singled out for its excellent behav...

Re: Polish 1812

You’d have to add Polish Chasseurs à Cheval (of which there were three strong regiments) and the 14th Cuirassiers (just two squadrons strong, but good enough to be brigaded with the Saxon lifeguard cuirassiers), both of which were on par with their French equivalents, and from 1813 the Krakus cavalr...

Re: Polish 1812

You could use the Vistula Legion lists as a starting point, but be warned that many of the points values are badly wrong.
e.g. Grenadiers 1808-1812 @ 13 points!
(Should be about 9 points, iirc.)

Re: GDA2

It's been a while since I last played GdA but I'm currently getting my troops together for some solo gaming. I think the game is fine as is, but my only gripe is with cavalry. The squadron is supposed to be the basic element but I have never seen how that works. Cavalry still seem to operate as a r...
