Re: French Divisional Support options in GDA2
Dave, Thanks for the response. Yes, it certainly helps to know what the intention was! The extra skirmishers are simply detachments of skirmishers available to the player to deploy as he sees fit, nothing more than that. OK. I figured the bonus skirmishers must be a way of balancing what appears to ...

Re: Finished reading the rules. Bravo!
In particular the skirmishing is the best adaption out there, and I so really like the army composition rules provided. The regimental and Divisional supports are very interesting and the whole thing manages to avoid points! Yes, skirmishers were a key part of GDA1, and now they’re an even more cru...

Re: Finished reading the rules. Bravo!
It seems to me that attackers receive a bit of a boost with the ability to effectively move and fire and with the simplified charge rules. Yes, GDA2 has certainly shifted the balance in favour of the attacker: undoubtedly a good thing for gameplay. In most rule sets advancing infantry usually gets ...

Re: French Divisional Support options in GDA2
Please look at the French Army Training Characteristics on page 98, all French Veteran Line battalions can skirmish and operate as an independent skirmish line. As a result, both battalions are indeed trained as Light Infantry and can be used as such. Dave, (Thanks for the wonderful new edition of ...

GDA2 Points values? (LoL)
I realise that points lists are probably anathema to Dave & Chris :D :D :D , but some of us have grown up with them, enjoy fiddling with numbers, and find it therapeutic to imagine that we can field two opposing armies that are vaguely balanced. Others of us have a lot(!) of Imperial Guard caval...

Re: French Divisional Support options in GDA2
Aha! (He says in an Alan Partridge voice.) Never suspected that hiding behind those ‘Elite Battalions’ would be converged battalions of grenadiers and voltigeurs. (I’m a bit slow sometimes.) Don’t know my Napoleonic unit history too well either, but I notice that such converged battalions disappeare...

French Divisional Support options in GDA2
On p102, one of the Divisional Support Options for the French is the following: 8th Bde — Elite Bttns/Young Guard 1x Line Bttn (Veteran) 1x Light Bttn (Grenadier) 3x Additional Skirmish Base Detachments What exactly do these represent in the real world? I’m assuming (for the early period) one bttn e...

Re: Nassau Regt (grenadiers), Chevauxlegers and Artillery
Can anyone direct me to, or failing that, advise on, the appropriate stats for these units? There are SP2 stats for Nassau troops in 1815 in Nick Skinner’s article in Lard Mag 2018. However, the Nassau Grenadiers seem a little underrated (and cheap at 5 pts per group). They could probably do with a...

Re: Total newbie question re cavalry 'units
In smaller actions squadrons were indeed used independently as tactical units, but I believe the assumption in GdA is that in larger battles cavalry was used in entire regiments. The exception, as mentioned by @nikjen66, is very large regiments, which might well be split up into two or more tactical...

Re: French Cuirassier brigades in 1812 - Russia.
In the Hundred Days campaign you have a similar problem with the Brunswick cavalry, which consisted of a single large hussar regiment (730 men in 4 squadrons) and a single squadron of uhlans (250 strong). One solution is to field this as two separate “Standard” units of hussars (each of 2 squadrons)...
