Re: Nation lists unclear?

Hi Jonathan, If you are looking for a list for the kind of Combat Engineer squad or platoon you hint at in your second option, then I suggest that you take a look at the German Combat Pioneer list in the Blitzkreig 1940 Handbook for an example. These are very highly trained troops with a very specif...

Re: Soviet Engineers. Op:Winter Storm

Hi Jonathan, I can’t help on the historic composition of Soviet Assault Engineer platoons, but the composition of Engineer teams and squad for the purpose of that support option is set out on pages 81 and 82 of the core rules. Basically it’s simply two 3 man engineer teams selected immediately befor...

Re: Fog of War cards and command rolls

Hi SD, I have yet to use FoW cards in a game. I would be inclined to use your suggestion of allocating any dummy cards to individual brigades and simply rolling for the brigade concerned. However, I don’t see any problem if you wanted to create a brigade consisting of mainly dummy cards with perhaps...

Re: GDA2

Hi Dave, These are combined rules questions and points that could be explained better in V2. 1. From a terminology point of view Garrison Fire is neither skirmish fire nor volley fire - so the fire range rules don't cover this. What is the range of fire for Garrison fire? At the moment we are playi...

Re: Deploying the HJ Pz IV in "Martlet"

Yes you can deploy it directly into the tank scrape within 6” of a JOP. It’s assumed to have been moved into position prior to the game start. To minimise the risk of any problems with your opponent you might want to mark the position on a map or make a note of it before the game starts after the JO...

Re: Nick Lardie has opened a can of worms...well a Sturmtiger

Hi Greg, If my memory serves when the possible use of a Sturmtiger in a Chain of Command game came up before, the conclusion reached and endorsed by Rich was that the minimum range of the rocket weapon meant it couldn’t hit anything on the same table. And if it was fired from off table it would flat...

Re: Leaders out of sight

While he cannot be directly targeted because he is out of sight, if a Leader is attached to any Team within 4” then he is vulnerable to being hit by a stray bullet if there are any kills on the Team. He doesn’t need to be visible to the firers to run that risk.

Re: Another ATSE Question: Supports

I do the same as GKA and TT and count men from a supporting infantry squad for calculating the Men’s Opinion on the grounds that they will probably have come from another Platoon in the same Company and be known to the core platoon. I ignore casualties on other support units. However, Rich has answe...

Re: Combat questions

Doesn’t need common sense rules. Overwatch ends when a unit is involved in firing or activated to do something else. Close Combat involves short range fire so will end Overwatch, unless you’ve trained your troops to put down their weapons and use throwing sticks, stones and a didgeridoo. :D
