Re: Cutting Out the Marie-Hélène

Thanks. I’m aware of the Chris Stoessen rules. Not entirely convinced by them. Some aspects seem to be holdovers from SP1. Never liked the roll more ones than sixes mechanism.

However I’ll have another look a them.

Artillery in fisticuffs

An interesting situation came up in Saturday's game. A longboat carrying a ship's gun in its bow had been run up the beach. I was treating the crew of the longboat as an artillery Group. Without a chance to get a shot off they were charged frontally by a Group of villagers (Wallahs with the Big Chop...

Cutting Out the Marie-Hélène

To coincide with VL4 weekend but not strictly part of it, I ran a test game of Sharp Practice 2 set in the Woebetides. https://thelandofcounterpane.blogspot.com/2021/01/cutting-out-action-at-djouadd.html The scenario worked OK, albeit we ran out of time and the boats made for an interesting change. ...

Re: Crisis Point 2021 - A Sharp Practice Weekend

We're now working towards a provisional date of the weekend of 17th and 18th April 2021. I'm building and painting stuff on the assumption that we'll go ahead that weekend but we'll have to wait and see.

Re: New Player Queries

A 4'x4' board is fine for Sharp Practice (or indeed for Chain of Command) if you are portraying fighting in dense terrain. I've used that sized board in the dense undergrowth of western Mexico (SP2) and in Stalingrad (CoC).

Re: Terrain for the Woebetide Islands

Richard Phillips (aka Fieldsway Scenics Commission Painting) is also working on terrain items for the Woebetides. As I'm currently part way through building a Hindoo temple and don't have any new pics to show, I thought I'd share some of Richard's. Below is a meeting area for Richard's Woebetideus o...

Re: Terrain for the Woebetide Islands

Living on an island group in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the inhabitants of the Woebetides are going to have plenty of use for ships and boats. My first larger vessel is this merchantman. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ob4dlxJp-bo/X53kRv_CQkI/AAAAAAAANJo/2hQpmX2xxrMpg7ALj_9yt-WTzW25RX7cgCLcBGAsYHQ/w...

Re: Naval landing party...

Gents, I would recommend "Wellington's Navy" by Christopher D. Hall to change the opinions of those landlubbers who consider the Peninsular War the preserve of massed redcoats or posy character actors in green dolmans, affecting a silly Northern accent and not wearing uniform headgear! That, Sir, i...

Re: Terrain for the Woebetide Islands

Inspired by Mr Clarke's foray into anti-slavery operations with Viva Ras Begus, I've gone and built my own barracoon (or slave barracks). https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DMyFNgiDkBQ/X19cFCYRSSI/AAAAAAAANDA/dNRGJAax7_46WZLWMS99ZTHR8QO2FPLawCLcBGAsYHQ/w354-h400/fullsizeoutput_818.jpeg The walls are made fr...

Re: Terrain for the Woebetide Islands

The latest terrain for the Woebetides is this eyot, which will appear in one of the islands' rivers. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dQ1QIvp1i2I/X1ak8q6Z-ZI/AAAAAAAANCI/LKX-RzmmluEBPw47JMIZEkGCA_dTuOhKgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h291/fullsizeoutput_815.jpeg It's built on PVC board base with a single thickness of fo...
