You could ask Warbases or Supreme Littleness to supply you with MDF bases with holes already drilled but without the magnets.

I bought bases with 100 slots at Salute 2018. Perhaps for the next batch...

Contrarius - why not just use metal bases (washers, 1p coins) and use the magnetic sheets for the sabot base?

I've been doing that as a stopgap but it's rather inelegant on the battlefield as you can't paint the magnetic sheeting.

For Sharp Practice I use the warbases-type sabots only for my skirmishers, so a maximum of 18 slots per army; for Chain of Command I need them for ALL my troops, and the early war units have bloody huge platoons - 57 men without the HQ section for the Poles, 40-odd for the Germans. I intend to use the same sabots for both periods to save on effort and expense, and to store/transport the figures individually using a magnetic sheet lining in a box.

I suppose a 3mm drill-bit turned manually will do the trick (must have one somewhere!). But in truth I hate doing anything that exposes the fibrous interior of MDF as it's such noxious stuff.

I have just started putting together Supreme Littleness (warbases would prob work equally well) sabot bases on self adhesive magnetic sheeting. It sounds like something similar to what you are looking for if I understand you correctly. I'll take pictures and post as soon as work and family allows, perhaps that will help or inspire.
