The Dambusters. Did you go?

Post by Nick » Fri May 18, 2018 11:29 am

Did any UK Lardies enjoy the cinematic treat that was the 4K restoration of The Dambusters last night? I went to our local cinema and found it brilliantly nostalgic to reconnect with an old favourite. And being a huge fan of Star Wars it was really interesting to see how George Lucas drew so heavily on the film for his attack on the Death Star. So many direct touchpoints that it was astounding how I'd never made the connection before. Great stuff.

Yes I went to my local Odeon cinema to experience the evening celebration. I thought Dan Snow presented the show very well and all the guests were excellent even down to the band.

I was totally blown away by the numbers of people who came, there were very few empty seats.

As for the film, well, it’s a classic and to see it on the big screen digitised was a real treat. Overall a very fitting tribute to the very skilled brave men who flew on this mission and to those like Barnes Wallace for his groundbreaking design.

Cheers
Lee

Who spotted the Canberra far off in the background of the airfield when they’re discussing whether the new Lancaster can carry the bomb?

Did I hear you right when you said the pre-show was online somewhere, Nick?
