Comprehensive AFV Lists

Post by Richard »

Right chaps, I have decided that to ease the way for many of you to create your own force lists it would be a good idea to have one comprehensive AFV list divided down into nationality, years of service and the organised into Lists as per the main rules.

This is clearly going to be a colossal task and I am looking for volunteers to draw up lists of AFVs for the individual nations. So, for example, Fred will say "I will draw up the list of AFVs for Holland". All he will need to do is find out what vehicles were used by the Dutch and when they were in service. He just posts a list of AFVs here. Once that is done I can follow that up and do all of the research.

We do have the advantage that I have a lot of data from IABSM, but some of the factors are different in CoC so I will need to crunch all of the numbers.

Any volunteers?

Rich

Rich

Happy to do British, maybe German.

Might be an idea to differentiate by theatre as well.

At least with the Soviets a lot of early AFVs remained in use both in the north and in the Far East - probably something for the notes on the BTs etc.

All,

Building an AFV database for CoC is something that Rich can delegate to the wider community. A burden shared is a burden lightened and all that jazz.

So...

I'm offering to co-ordinate this. Not because I'm a megalomaniac WW2 expert (far from it) but because I have the time, resources and inclination available to do it (like Rich, I work from home; unlike Rich, I have no social life  ). Some organisation will be needed to avoid duplication, reconcile data inconsistencies and whatnot.

Now, we've had some early offers to contribute to this, but we will need more. If you know anything about WW2 AFVs, we could use your input.

To kick things off then, I suggest:

A.) The criteria for inclusion is that the vehicle was used in combat during WW2 by any combatant nation (irrespective of manufacturing nation status).

B.) We initially arrange the vehicles by nation of use (and not original manufacture). So, for instance, various marks of Shermans will appear on the UK, Commonwealth, US, Brazilian etc lists.

This will help build a master list of AFVs relatively quickly and may be enough on its own to allow Rich to create CoC specs using existing IABSM conversion.

It'll be handy too if there's a central reference point for all this. I've shared my master list of German tracked AFVs on a website at:

http://mostlybroken.co.uk/afv_data.html

to act as a starting point. As contributors add their own lists, I'll share them on the site to ensure everyone has access to the latest information.

Sound good?

Cheers,

Lorne

** The Archer main gun face out the rear of the turretless vehicle, surely an unusual arrangement (the Archer was based on the Valentine tank and was too small to mount the 17 pounder forward). The Archilles was an American M-10 Motor Carriage with the 3" gun replaced by a 17 pounder.
