Well, Hannibal still had one last elephant with him after Cannae. Indeed he had 37 when he started his campaign, and iirc, crossed the Alps with seven.
The last elephant was called Surus (the Syrian), and had a red cloth cover, and possibly only one tusk.

Hannibal was reinforced, and as I recall that included more elephants, while he was bogged down in Italy.
