...also the Volkssturm don't get the normal German "machine gun" National Characteristic.
Yup !
It might be epic to try to repel soviet assaults in a german suburb...

Yes. You'll need lots of entrenchments and a FO for the mortar battery.

Just what I needed to get the figures out of the lead pile. Having read a couple of earlier threads on Volkssturm, think I’d be tempted to make the squads in the core platoon less regularly or well equipped but then enable them to add additional weaponry or teams by spending support points.

Maybe make them large, single unit rifle-armed squads, to which separate LMG teams might be added, as I doubt they were well trained tactically?

Yes it would be arguable to play them as single unit squads. In the end we decided to go with them as "teams" on the premise that many members had had prior combat experience.

I too would consider the single team option.
Not sure ifthey received any meaningful training on combat drills.more like point the round end of the panzerfsust away from you and pull the trigger 😉

Or perhaps use the Dutch Lewis gun rules from Blitzkrieg?

I’m now trawling through various other lists and articles for other ideas on how to give the Volkssturm a bit of character - borrowing ideas from the home guard lists, bicycles and Dutch Lewis guns from Blitzkrieg etc.

I think there’s a case to have the equivalent of a 1941 Soviet Commissar, to ‘encourage’ the men to stand their ground, but what’s an appropriate alternative title for a diehard NS party member? Maybe “NS-Fuhrungsoffizier” or “Ortsgruppenleiter”?

You could add a veteran SS half sized squad, or tank hunters,in the support list.

By the time it got to Berlin, it was all so confused that you could have virtually anything as a support - one of my mates fathers was there as an Estonian volunteer in the SS, and I still can't understand how he survived. As for a 'Commissar' style figure, it's unclear how many of the Golden Eagle wearers were on the front lines. Blockleiters perhaps?

You could add anything, but if there is a case for just rolling for random support - and often none - this would be it.
