Starting in 6mm (WW2)

Post by gilliessim » Thu Aug 22, 2019 7:53 am

Having been swayed (indirectly!) by various online personalities I have decided to plunge into 6mm IABSM. Got the first batch of troops from Baccus a wee while ago and finally got some time to start working on them. Still a work in progress, but so far they are nowhere near as tricky as I first imagined, and actually the speed of going through them is rather pleasing!

Excellent news welcome to the cult, er... club!

If you need any suggestions for anything just give me a prod mate.

I must point out is a new UK manufacturer, it's a small range at the moment but it's very well priced, imagine GHQ quality at about half the price: https://www.2d6wargaming.com/

Really recommend Adler's mini's too, they'd mix well with Baccus: http://home.clara.net/adlermin/page5.html

Thank you! I've got a few samples of napoleonics from Baccus so may well mix in some Adler cavalry, I've heard the Adler Cavalry is rather good!

Thanks for pointing out the 2D6 site - one to watch as the range expands!

Yeah, a chum of mine is doing nappies with Adler, they look incredible en masse although I think having a collection of over 2000 is going a bit far. :o

Rob over at 2d6 has done some vids on Adler Nappies, many more on his chan...

I have a bunch of GHQ/Adler minis all awaiting David Brown's O Group. I will be purchasing it the moment it becomes available.

I really like the Baccus (and the 2d6 looks nice too) - unfortunately the vehicle range sits, size-wise somewhere between GHQ and H&R so doesn't appear to readily mix. Sadly the range of vehicles in miniscule at this time and core vehicles seem to being rolled out very slowly.

I'm also looking to use 6mm for the forthcoming O Group but am also garing up to use them for much larger actions using Panzer Korps.

I'll probably use Baccus infantry but go with GHQ for the completeness of the range.

I really like the Baccus stuff too. But it's arrived about ten years too late for me to buy it. I'm already set up with Ros Heroics.

The Baccus vehicles are a bit of a question mark for me, I'm not sure about committing to them and then having to wait for the variety to improve. I'm thinking I'll just go with GHQ vehicles, saves the wait.
2D6 stuff looks good but again - depends how quickly the range fills out.

Finished off the first batch of 6mm British troops. Completely forgot to order PIATs from Baccus so will be visiting them again soon!

Four platoons, with 2in mortars (no PIATs yet) and Five Big men.

Long, long ago, as a poor itinerant student I thought 6mm would be the way to go. Relatively cheap and highly transportable, it seemed the perfect solution. So I bought two armies, WW2 Late Germans and Russians, using mainly Heroics miniatures, and painted them all up. The German big cats looked especially nice - right down to elaborate camo schemes and turret numbers.

I think I played with the toys only once. Never could feel any emotional attachment for my men and tanks — they were just too darn small — so they stayed in their box and have done ever since. Perhaps I’ll freshen them up for O Group, but I somehow doubt it.
