I disagree, she's 'skylining', she should be in that shadowy lee, slightly to her left.

Re: Close Combat question
Cute dog John.
We are currently play testing some of Len’s updated terrain rules.
Units need to be within 2” to see out of Primary jungle, like wise units can only see 2” into such terrain.
This is what happened:
• A Japanese section is in Primary jungle 6” from the edge while an Australian section is in a Tactical stance in Open terrain.
• The Japanese player activates to perform a (1D6 +Fire) and is now within 2” of the edge of Primary Jungle which is also 4” from the Australian section.
• At this point both sides are visible to each other but in different terrain.
• The Japanese fire at half effect then engage in Close Combat.

Re: Close Combat question
I would have thought that as soon as you reach that 4" limit, close combat would preclude the firing option.

Re: Close Combat question
Nope the rules clearly state any order as per whatever page I quoted above.
But half effect fire is not that influential. ...getting double turn advancing to 6" shooting with SMGs then shooting and changing in next phase however just might be.

Re: Close Combat question
No the Japanese can't fire since the Aussies aren't visible until they enter Close Combat range then it's straight into CC.

To quote you from above in answer: "I would disagree with 1 as per p.17 Move and fire (both at reduced effect) in whichever order the player wishes".Truscott Trotter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 10:43 pmNope the rules clearly state any order as per whatever page I quoted above.
Move & fire? OK, granted.
Move & fire AND enter Close Combat? Methinks not (but two out of three ain't bad).

Re: Close Combat question
Ok if for some reason you are not visable until exactly 4" then no firing - sorry did not see JBs post above yours Ooze
Re: Close Combat question
Yeah, this sounds like the Japanese squad effectively stumbled into the Aussies, so even though they may have wanted to fire, they ended up in CC. Also, since jungle is so limiting to line of sight, it seems like these sorts of "accidental" close combats would be more prevalent, which (if some of the period memoirs are anything to go by) makes perfect sense.

Re: Close Combat question
Agreed Munin, accidental close combat was not uncommon in the jungle. The jungle rules attempt to reflect this. So, in the above situation, I'd say the Japanese have stumbled into the Aussie section and are now in close combat. Also, I agree with the contention that close combat is not just hand-to-hand combat, it involves CQ firing and grenades as well. I read an account of a British officer in Burma who used a .455 Webley pistol to good effect in such an environment.
