hello,
can an unit that performed a "forward task" reinforce a BUA melee ?

Can't see how. Page 90 Reinforcing Melees requires reinforcing units to be either a supporting unit or be within very close reach of the Melee. Presumably if a unit is using the Forward task it will be located some considerable distance away and cannot meet the criteria at the start of its move.

Hi John,
do you mean that only units (defender side) that during Charge phase were at support distance of BUA can reinforce the melee ?

Ciao Mike
pag.90:
Infantry must be either a supporting unit or a unit within 5cm [3"]
of the Melee, (which includes the rear figure base or rank of the
engaged friendly unit).

Hi Mike,
Yes that was my assumption but now I'm not so sure having reread the rules in the light of your subsequent question. Since you ignore the Charge Procedure and simply move any reinforcements into the fight during the second round of fighting during the Melee phase, then any units which had moved close enough to the combat during the preceding movement phase should be eligible to reinforce. So units which were too far away to count as supports in the Charge Phase may now take part in the fighting.

The fact that they used the Forwards tasking to get there seems to be irrelevant.

Also remember that the sequence will be:

First - Charges - so only units charging move up and attack.

Then - Movement. If you wish to move up units to be in a reinforcing position for the melee phase you may do so, (this includes a Forwards tasking if the brigade has that tasking.)

Finally - Melee. Any unit currently in a support position may reinforce up to the maximum number of units.
