Yahoo Group

Post by Chris68 »

When I joined the TFL Yahoo Group, it wouldn't let me hide my email. When I looked at the list of members, mine was the only email that was showing. I tried looking for how to hide my email but, even though I found the edit button, it wouldn't let me do so.

I hat to leave the group because I was concerned my email was visible to everyone and anyone who chose to have a look. I'm thinking of rejoining but this time keeping an eye out for any options I might have missed initially.

It looks like I have a Yahoo! Alias and an Email but I am unable to deselect either of them, meaning, I think my email will be visible just like before.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks all
Diolch yn Fawr,
Chris

Are you sure that the software is not just showing you your own e mail, while not showing you anyone else's? When I look at the list of e mails the only one I see is mine.

I think you are right; this has been pointed out to me as well.

How do you use the Yahoo Groups? I find them confusing.

I post a question, then I replied to that question, but the reply doesn't show up under the initial post like it does on forums. I clicked on the 'Reply' button, but it doesn't show up.

Navigating Yahoo Groups is a nightmare. Finding anything old is just about impossible.

And postings don't always show up immediately after you make them.

It's confusing and I don't understand how it's so popular a medium. I guess if you're used to it then it's no problem. But I find it very unintuitive

Thanks for the info

Yahoo Groups are a relic from the Internet stone age. Their only plus point is that they allow people to handle everything via email. To my mind that ceased to be a useful feature when always on broadband showed up over ten years ago.

Some people still like Yahoo Groups and Richard doesn't want to shut up shop on what is seen as a thriving community. But Yahoo will shut it all down some day anyway.

You don't normally see your own replies on Yahoo groups.
They are not from the Stone Age. Usenet is from the Stone Age. Majordomo mail servers are from the Stone Age.
Anyone remember rec.games.miniatures.historical?
It made TMP seem likes a Swiss finishing school

TMP; I've got a folder with all the shortcuts to threads I'm involved in because it doesn't have email notification. It's a shame because it's a good site.

I remember rec.games.miniatures.historical quite fondly. No moderation is better than arbitrary moderation if you ask me.
