Seven Years War

Post by agent_pumpkin »

What rules do fellow Lardies recommend/use for the Seven Years War?

I will be using 6mm.

The "Maurice" rules by Sam Mustafa produce enjoyable games with a fair amount of friction, since you can never move all your units in a single turn. The use of cards also introduces some interesting tactics and challenges for managing your hand (command resources).

Take a look at Batailles de l'Ancien Régime or BAR. http://www.oldregimerules.com/bar_0.html
and a blog featuring the rules:

Hello
I didn't like Maurice so much, we kept Might and Reason ( also from Sam Mustafa )

I've played both Die Kreigskunst and Maurice. DKK has more detail than Maurice, the rules in Maurice are simpler but I think it better captures the feel of the period.

There is a lite version of Maurice available for free from Sam Mustafa's web site http://www.sammustafa.com/honour/downloads/

Of course you could try Sharpe's Practice :)

What rules for SYW..ah, the holy grail of wargaming questions ! I have been on that particular quest for several years. I have tried Warfare in the Age of Reason, Age of Honour (the Fire & Fury variant), Might & Reason, Maurice, Black Powder, Minden Rose, and Die Kriegskunst. None of them really hits the mark for me. At the moment I am trying to write my own rules, whilst dallying with Black Powder and Die KK.

Perhaps Richard could bring some lard to bear on the problem ?!
