How do you do a charge with your skirmishers in front ?

Post by EQUITES » Tue Jul 11, 2017 1:07 pm

hello,
my understanding is that charging battalions have to interpenetrate own skirmish line....
But if no enough room is available in order ''to clear'' the skirmish unit,
is it possible to move the sk bases on the path and considering their movement as ''bonus move''???

thanks
Michele

Hi Michele,
It depends a little on what formations are involved and how you base them. Skirmishers may not advance closer than 5cm(3") to the enemy so there will be a gap which you can fill if charging in Line. In the case of columns we just move the skirmishers to the side or rear bearing in mind that they are allowed to deploy and operate in the gaps between units of their brigade. (Page 66)

Hi John,
in case of columns I agree to move the skirmishers to the side but this movement is not considered as involvement in the charge and then these skirmishers can move again normally in the movement phase...do you agree ?

Hi Michele,
Yes I'd agree, that's how we have treated it anyway.

We moved them the minimum distance to get them out of the way.
