Any good concepts for Movement & Firing Sticks

Post by wireme61 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 7:21 pm

Has anyone developed a good movement and firing stick concept?
I noticed DB had a version to denote the 5cm distance in his play through video.
What distances are they marked at?

W61,

That measuring stick was a remnant from our Waterloo 2002 mega-game we did at the National Army Museum.

Gerry Elliot (of the old Wargames Holiday Centre in Scarborough and Grand Manner fame) came down to play armed with a set of these measuring sticks.

It was marked up for General de Brigade 15mm musketry at 10cms and 20 cms; I simply added a 5cms for our video.

Top to bottom
Cavalry Move 25cm stick

Artillery move. note the line. Foot to the line and Horse the the end 25cm stick

General move stick. the blamk is suppose to say Square, so I will get that redone. But with this you can measure any of the other moves up to each line
The we have the shooting stick. each line to the right of the words denote max rang
Lastly the T piece. My 5cm measuring tool!

Next picture show my artillery ruler, it is 1 metre long.

All up pretty happy with the results. All in 3mm MDF and all with a blank backing plate for some added strength.
Also had a heap of order markers produced and next is the casualty chits.

Hi Dave, these measuring sticks look great. Are you happy with them? Would you change anything?
Thanks Gerry

Hi Gerry ,
No I would not change anything as they do the job! If you are after some I can put you in touch with the people that made them for me? Just send me a PM if you are. They also made me a heap of casualty chits.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Polish Lancer
Love the look of the measuring sticks you have had made up for you. I think they are just the job for GDA games.
With them being made of 3mm MDF is there a risk of them snapping ?
Would you be able to say who has produced them for you ? As I would really like to buy a couple of sets.

Hi Martyn,
Well no snapping at this stage. The artillery stick is actually done with 6 parts and you glue it all together for strength. Send an email to Sharon at sales@somersetmodels.com.au . They know me as Dave if you need to mention me to jog their memory, but I do believe they have the templates saved. Any problems let me know and I can drop into the shop as its on my way home of an evening. They also to bases for minis too! I get all my bases from them as will.

Cheers,

Polish Lancer (aka Dave)

Hi Dave
Merry Christmas to yourself and everyone else.
Just wanted to let you know I received 2 sets of the measuring sticks on Monday (23rd) .
Spent Christmas Eve assemble the pieces. They are well produced by Somerset models, but obviously designed by you.
They are ideal for GDA and fit perfectly with all other accessories. (Status and casualty markers)
I would certainly recommend them for gamers and the service from Somerset models is second to none.
Thanks once again.
All the best for the New Year.
Martyn.
