Blitzkrieg in the West #1: The French Now Available

Post by Vis Bellica » Thu Feb 01, 2018 9:54 am

When IABSM v3 was published, two late war handbooks quickly followed: Battle for Liberation and Vpered Na Berlin. I am very pleased to say that today sees the publication of the first of the v3 early war handbooks: Blitzkrieg in the West #1: The French.

The handbook is 73 pages long, and covers the French Army from 1939 to the fall of France in 1940. It has twenty-nine force listings in it, all looking at core company structure and then the possible battalion, brigade, regimental, divisional and higher level supports. It also has a guide to rating your French forces, and a comprehensive armoury.

Just ordered. Great stuff. Next stop Early War Miniatures for a look at their 20mm French line.

Agreed: Vive la France!

PS but I also like: "I remember every detail. The Germans wore grey, you wore blue."

Yes, tons of wonderful lines. My favorite movie. In the late 60's NYC revival theaters would show the film and the audience would stand and sing along during the "La Marseillaise" scene.

Waited a long time for early war IABSM, thanks.

I like COC but it is very infantry oriented and I also like seeing the various arms of service working together. Infantry likes cover, armor prefers a bit more range. Artillery? Well, just don't get too close to the lightening!

I won't be able to buy before next week but it is a sure purchase.

Looking forward to the rest of the early war series. PS Italians?

Having grappled with the French organisations and techno-speak for CoC:Abyssinia, I'll give a standing ovation for this concise, detailed and invaluable work.

Well done chaps!

Congratulations Robert on an excellent piece of work. Fascinating stuff.
I think you should post a link to this on the Chain of Command forum and Facebook page where it might be of interest to those players collecting a French platoon given the valuable background information it contains.

And here’s me with a 1940 French army that needs organising - perfect timing and looking forward to the next two releases.
See you in the morning down by the Jetty
