6th Battle of Britain Game

Post by General_Pettygree »

The link below shows the Pilot Briefing with photos for our 6th Big Battle of Britain on 11 August 1940/2018. The Luftwaffe flew thirty aircraft versus RAF's Fighter Command total of eithteen plus 3x Blenheims = 21. There were three sectors; East, Center and West.

There are no hexagons. Movement has been converted to metric. Formula = BTH hex speeds x 6.
Example: Spitfires move 7 hexes x 6 = 42 cms rounded down to 40cms + 1D4.
Each D4 # = +5cms.
---
I found turning templates in Duel of Eagles also in metric.
That was lucky. I wish I could locate the authors.
There are seven curvatures A-G
No one has access to all seven. Bombers have the fewwest given their limited maneuverability compared to nimble fighters.
---
No altitude. We are all flying at relatively the same altitude when attacks go in.
Impossible to have a game with this many aircraft and also deal with altitude,
---
Hybrid game between tactical and strategic. Long flying times, fuel consumption and one needs to get back home at the end.

I flew a VIC of 3x Hurricanes in the eastern area of the table. Lewis joined me with three more. We took off from Biggin Hill to engage 6x HE 111s escorted by 4 x ME 110s. Gosh they had a lot of air gunners not to mention the ME 110s front firepower. We turned back two 111s, destroyed another and 1x110 went down. The rest of the 111s were scattered but they still got through to demolish fuel tanks in a harbor. Two of our Hurricanes went down with one pilot saved.

Fun game. We do these twice a year.

Respectfully,
Bill P.
