The object isn't really to get armour on the table (although it will certainly be there :-) ) - it needs to be a big CoC game to accommodate the number of players, ideally 3 a side, with 2 games running simultaneously, so 12 players all told.

Oh OK then 3 plts per side 1 armour and 2 infantry should be fine or even 1 armour and 2 inf Vs 3 infantry plts.

That will give you a fair scope for armour and still keep the game flowing OK

Suppose that you use three platoons, a full company. How do you add the company commander?

I probably won't be doing that, but doesn't he just become the ranking officer (page 18)
You just add a senior leader who can command anyone.

With 3 players per side I play the standard game. Each side has a commander appointed who makes a plan, assigns the troops and missions to his subordinates(including himself unless he chooses to use the armor, or reserve or whatever). He throws all the command dice, then assigns them to each"mission" in anyway he wants. Everyone plays with smaller kit and very seldom is someone standing with nothing to do.

We've done this a couple of times. Use a ranking officer as company commander. Larger command radius, 4 activations, on a 4. But the impact of losing him is quite big, so people tend to keep them safe

And the foremost of said "people [tending] to keep [him] safe" would almost inevitably be he himself, right?

(Playing the period, not the rules?)
