British Airborne List

Post by Trailape »

As posted earlier I'm having the exact same issues with the list in question but couldn't find the answer.

In the regular British section each section has 10 figures, it is obvious how it is written.

But in the airborne section it is less obvious to me.
In sections 1 and 2 there are 10 men each: A JL, Bren gun with 3 crew in one team (I am presuming that the 2 crew have rifles) and 6 figures in the other team; 5 with rifles and one with a Sten so that's 6 paras in that team right? 5 with 303 and 1 with a Stengun?

Section 3 also gives me some pause though, as Tom has pointed out there are two Bren teams and a sniper. So in section 3 we have:
A JL, and two Bren teams either with, (now is it either):
A: 3 men, one with a Bren, one with a Sten and 1 with a rifle or
B: 4 men, one with a Bren, one with a Sten and 2 with rifles.
and a Sniper.

Is it A or B and am I correct in saying that the Bren team members are armed with rifles.
Also.
The 'Sniper'! Is he a true 'sniper' with all the sniper rules applicable or is he simply a 'marksman' within the Section?
Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott
As the rules are written crew for LMG do not fire their rifles they are too bust loading etc
I have crew with rifles on my models but do not count them for firing purposes.
So in the 3rd Section you have:
2x Bren team - 1 Bren gunner two loaders, 1 guy with Sten
1 x JL with Sten
1 x Sniper
The sniper is a real sniper in the 'scope ' of the rules :)

Yup 3 with the Bren and one with a Sten
So the section has a total of 10 men inc the sniper
(IMHO there should be an option to deploy the sniper in the 3rd section as an ordinary riflemen)
In sections one and two it is
1x JL w/Sten
1st Section with Bren 3 crew = 3 men
2nd Section with 5 rifles and 1 Sten - 6 men
total for section = 10

Have them all on the painting table , basecoated and ready to start as we speak - nt 100% happy with my trial runs at Denison camo

I don't think anyone would object, surely? Just as long as he's played as either one or the other throughout the game.

IIRC a sniper is a team in his own right, perhaps with the addition of a spotter although they tended to be lone wolves in WW2.

The sniper is listed as a separate team in the third section for the British Airborne. If he is used as a sniper and not replaced with a normal rifleman, can he deploy on board with the rest of the section or would he essentially be treated the same as the sniper team that is part of the airborne platoon HQ and essentially need to deploy as an independent team? Given how the sniper rules seem to work, it seems difficult to see how he could deploy or operate as part of a section unless replaced as a normal rifleman.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he deploy as part of the section as a sniper
If you search the forum you will see I asked Richard this awhile ago and was told he deploys on a 1 -.
There is another sniper in the HQ section as well.
According to bayonet strength and other sources, all paras were trained to use the sniper rifle and 2 were provided for each pt.
I will leave it to others with better knowledge to discuss there actual usage as snipers.
